Frequently Asked
Questions
Q: Where do I park?
A: Lot D or B
Q: What to expect on the first day of class?
A: On the first day of class, stop at our desk just outside the
locker rooms on the pool deck to check in. At this time we will
give you some written information on our programs. It is very
important to read the information we give you. Parents should have
their swimmers line up on the benches on the pool deck as they wait
for their class to begin. Parents will need to move to the Glass
Commons viewing area, as they are not permitted to stay on deck.
Q: Will my child be evaluated on the first day of
class?
A: If you are returning to the program from a previous session,
we ask that you bring your swimmer's SwimAmerica certificate to the
first day of class. We will return all updated certificates to the
swimmers at the end of each session. If you are new to the program,
we will create a certificate for you and give it to you at the end
of the session. New swimmers will be evaluated the first day of
class. We go trough a short test of skills to see where the child
will start in our program.
Q: What levels do you offer at each class?
A: SwimAmerica is a ten level program and we offer all then
levels in every class. If you have two swimmers, they can take
their lessons together regardless of the level they are in.
Q: What is the student/teacher ratio?
A: Our goal is to provide a 5:1 ratio for anyone that is 5 years
old or older and a 3:1 ratio for preschoolers. However, because we
are passing swimmers and moving them every day, it is possible for
this ratio to be slightly off. This is very rare and is changed as
soon as a teacher becomes available.
Q: Who will teach SwimAmerica classes?
A: Each instructor has been trained by the SwimAmerica program.
Many of our instructors are working professionals with more than 10
ears of experience.
Q: Can I request a specific instructor?
A: No. We ca not possibly accommodate the hundreds of requests
we get. Please do not ask for a specific instructor or to be placed
in a class with another swimmer.
Q: What equipment does my child need for
lessons?
A: Your child only needs to bring a swimsuit and a towel. Girls
also need some sort of hair tie to keep their hair out of their
face. Caps are strongly encouraged.
Q: Can my child wear goggles?
A: After a swimmer has passed level three, they may start
wearing goggles. Swimmers in the first three levels are still
learning to acclimate their bodies to the water and we want them to
be able to function in the water without any aids.
Q: Can I observe SwimAmerica lessons?
A: Every day is observation day! Parents may only observe
lessons from the Glass Commons viewing area.
Q: Can I bring my son/daughter into a locker room of the
opposite gender?
A: Small children with parents of the opposite gender, who
require assistance getting ready for lessons, should use the pool
office restrooms. The pool deck can be accessed through the pool
office.
Q: Is a parent allowed to use the pool locker room for
their personal use?
A: Absolutely not. Parents are not allowed to use the pool
locker rooms for their personal use due to the concerns for the
safety of the children participating in the program.
Q: Can I make up missed classes?
A: We do not offer or allow additional makeup classes. If we
cancel a class for some unforeseen reason, there will be a makeup
date scheduled.
Q: It seems like SwimAmerica is competitive swimming
oriented. Will my swimmer still learn about water safety?
A: Yes. SwimAmerica lessons are designed to teach all the swim
skills your child needs to be safe in and around the water for a
lifetime. Our swim school focuses on the safety skills and the
ability to swim a minimum of 300 yards of freestyle.
Q: Can I get a refund for my class?
A:
Cancellation and Refund Policy:
You may cancel a class anytime without penalty up until a week
before the class begins. In the week leading up to the start
of a class, you may still cancel the class but a $10 processing fee
will be applied to your refund. If you wish to cancel a class
after the class has begun, no refund will be given. No makeup
classes are allowed for a missed class. Refunds will only be
given for missed classes in the event that we are not able to
conduct the lessons safely or effectively due to an issue with our
facility.
